I was born in Prague and live there still.
I am kind and friendly, and my model behaviour,
virtue and capacity for hard work is
well-known throughout my native district of Vinohrady.
I am extremely popular with my friends.
In fact I'm the sort of person others like
to confide in, and they tell me about heir problems and their
small pleasures and successes. Yes - and I'm also one of
those people who always finished their homework
for Monday by Friday afternoon - you can tell, can't you?
I'm always smiling and trying to maintain a pleasant
atmosphere in every group or team.
My own successes gratify me less than the successes
of my enemies. I enjoy helping old ladies carry their shopping bags
across the road. I like collecting old paper and iron for
recycling. I get a kick out of cleaning up the rubbish
from in front of the house.
But enough congratulations, let's get back to obligations.
I have plenty of secrets to reveal.
Just as the day has a sun and a moon, light and darkness,
I too have my public face and my reverse.
When twilight descends over the city, my soul is suddenly unquiet.
I gaze out of the window,
The clouds grow dark, the sun sets, falling behind some imaginary
barrier.
The air suddenly acquires a lightly acrid edge, and the cells
of my body respond with a soft chill. My other self awakes in
my soul. The wind rises, and a cloud of cawing crows descends
from the sky.
The devil has endowed me with a terrifying destiny, I cannot abide
my excessive benevolence. I feel a dreadful transformation
taking place within me.
